Retire in Maine!

It's never too early to plan for the next stage of your life adventure! If Maine is on your list of places to visit to look for a congenial retirement community, stay here and shop around. We are centrally located for scouting expeditions from Wells to Camden. It's a bit like looking at colleges with your high school student, but this time the fun is all yours!Pemaquid Point, Maine.

Not sure Maine is exactly what you had in mind? Then take some time to discover or rediscover the coast of Maine. From outlet shopping in Freeport to museums of every kind in Portland, Brunswick, Camden and Rockland to Audubon Nature Centers in numerous towns to lobster when you want it, Maine has it all!

Golf courses abound (yes, the snow melts!) and the beaches go on for miles (until they run into those rocky outcroppings the state is famous for). The sun does shine and the people are friendly. The mountains meet the ocean in Bar Harbor and meet the lakes in Rangeley. Maine is a hop, skip and a jump (literally in some places!) from Canada to the north, east and west, New Hampshire to the west and south and there are over 1200 miles of shoreline from Kittery to Calais.

Bradbury Mountain State Park, Pownal, Maine. There's a minor league ball team (The Sea Dogs) and a minor league hockey team (The Portland Pirates) in Portland. If only the majors will do, the DownEaster train will take you into Boston to Fenway Park or the Garden for sports events. The smaller towns of Augusta (the state capital) and Bangor are experiencing a resurgence in city living with many new small shops opening, a lively night scene with big name entertainment and cozy regional and world-themed restaurants.

The following is a short list of retirement communities within a 2 hour drive from White Cedar Inn. They range in offerings from single family housing in active centers to assisted living in retirement homes to dual housing options for spouses needing additional care.

Retirement Communities are not for everyone. If you're thinking of retiring to Maine but want to live in a multi-generational setting, please give our friend Jim Roberts a call. Jim is a licensed realtor in Maine. He can be reached at 207-725-8522.

Retiring in Maine does not mean retiring from the world! Mainers have consistently led in many areas of environmental leadership, technological advances and maritime trends. Although located in a somewhat 'distant' corner of the country Maine has always played a pivotal part in the social, political and environmental scene in this country. Be a part of the trend...move to Maine!

Maine...it's how retirement should be!
